After serving in the Army in Korea for three years.
In 1953 on a windy, cold day, on an empty lot at Manchester and Mitchell streets, across from Scullin Steel selling fruit on the side of the road a truck blew over Jaspers fruit stand.
There's got to be a better way, so he took a plastic bowl and added the paper that the fruit was packaged in, piled it up, put a ribbon on it and set it on the side of the stand.
Low and behold a man came and bought it and that was the start of Jaspers Fruit Basket business.
